Sofapaka picked all three points against Thika United after winning their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match 1-0 at City Stadium on Sunday.
Eugine Asike scored the only goal of the match in the 83rd minute from a goal mouth melee as the tie had appeared headed for a barren draw.
The first half of this match was devoid of any chances as a cautious approach was exhibited by both sides.
The best chance for Sofapaka came in the 20th minute when veteran midfielder Titus Mulama hit the goal post as he attempted to head home the ball.
Three minutes later, Zimbabwean import Obadiah Tarimbwa's goal bound shot was blocked by a Thika United defender.
Thika ended the first half with a long effort by Dennis Odhiambo whose shot was nowhere in troubling Duncun Ochieng in the Sofapaka goal.
At the end of the half, the statistics were disappointing with none of the teams having made a shot on target.
In an earlier match at the same venue, new KCB coach Abdalla Juma had a wonderful start after his team thrashed Nairobi City Stars 4-0.
Clifford Alwanga scored twice while Jacob Keli and Benedict Owuor scored one goal each. Alwanga opened the account for the bankers in the 20th minute tapping home from a Jacob Keli effort.
Owuor was on the mark four minutes later scoring from the penalty spot. Dennis Nganga was judged to have fouled Edwin Mwaura in the box something that earned him a yellow card.
Keli was on the mark in the 30th minute after he headed home a high flying ball from deep inside the midfield. Alwanga completed his double in the 34th minute beating goalkeeper Rony Kagunzi with a powerful low shot.
City Stars found their footing in the second half and former AFC Leopards striker Jimmy Bagaye should have pulled at least one in the 73rd minute when he hesitated to score after he found himself in the KCB defense unmarked.
In other matches, Sony Sugar were held to a barren draw by Mathare United, Ulinzi Stars beat Bandari 1-0, Homeboyz hammered Karuturi Sports 3-1 and Muhoroni Youth hit Western Stima 2-0.
