Kenya FA receives government backing in move to bid to host 2019 Afcon finals

Sports Minister Namwamba confirms they have given full backing to the country's bid for the two events and also urges the federation to stage Challenge Cup in 2013
Kenyan Sports Minister Ababu Namwamba has reiterated the governments support for Football Kenya Federation in it's various endeavors to promote football in the country.

Namwamba has confirmed they have given their full backing to the country's bid for the 2015 Africa Youth Championships and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

"While in Uganda last year, I met officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) where we discussed the possibility of Kenya hosting the Nations Cup."

"I want to confirm that we have given the federation the go ahead to bid. We fully support all their plans to promote football in the country and promise to give them any help they need to succeed," he told

The minister was speaking when he attended the unveiling of new Kenyan coach Adel Amrouche. Namwamba further urged Kenya FA to bid to host this year's Senior Challenge Cup at the end of 2013.

He pleaded with East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL), who sponsor the national team, to consider paying the salary of the new head coach.

"We are grateful for the support that EABL has given to Stars. But they need to take it higher and even consider taking up the salary of the new coach."
