The 'Special One' says he his not going to rest on his laurels after the huge victory in Seychelles adding that they have work to be done to ensure qualification
Matano said on Monday that he is not resting on his laurels and pointed out that there is still work to be done to ensure they make it to the first round. The brewers' registered a comprehensive 4-1 away win with David 'Cheche" Ochieng netting a double and Michael Olunga and Ugandan Andrew Ssekayomba adding the the other two.
"It was a convincing win nonetheless, but we cannot begin to celebrate before we qualify. There is still some work to be done and this is what we a focusing on at the moment. We have to get the results on the pitch then we can afford to celebrate," Matano told Goal.com.
Tusker arrived back home on Sunday and begin training on Monday in preparation for the return match as well as the domestic season which starts at the weekend.
The 'Special One' also paid special tribute to his new players for proving themselves in the team's first competitive match and pointed out they have a bright future ahead.
"To me David 'Cheche' Ochieng' was the man of the match. His two goals were outstanding and it shows he has a lot to offer the team. Michael Olunga was also impressive in every aspect and it proves that we did not make a mistake to sign him."
Elsewhere, Football Kenya Federation (Fkf) has announced it is considering altering the league calendar in a bid to help local clubs be more competitive in their continental assignments.
In a response to complaints by Gor Mahia coach Zradvko Logarusic that his side was not 100 percent ready for their weekend Confederations Cup match since the season had not started, Kenya FA President Sam Nyamweya said he agrees with the Croat.
"This is something we are aware of because even the national team gets affected during the Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (Cecafa) regional tournaments held at the end of the year. We are looking into it and will certainly change the dates for the league."
Currently, the KPL league is played from February to November of every year. If it is changed, the league will run from August to May of the following year which is in line with the European calendar.
