Kenya champions Tusker FC to depart for Seychelles on Thursday

According to the brewers' administrator Charles Obiny, a squad of 25 will travel ahead of the first leg tie of Champions League against St. Michel on Saturday
Tusker will depart for Seychelles on Thursday to honor their preliminary round champions league match against St.Michel.

The first leg match has been scheduled for Saturday. According to Tusker FC administrator Charles Obiny, a squad of 25 will travel to Seychelles.

"We have made reservations for 25 people who include 18 players and seven members of the technical bench," Obiny told

He said coach Robert Matano will name his traveling party on Wednesday morning just a few hours before the team departs for the Seychelles capital.

Last year, Tusker did not reach the first first round of the Champions League after losing 1-0 to APR of Rwanda in the preliminary round, and will be keen to do better this time around.

In an earlier interview, coach Robert Matano said he was satisfied with his preparations which included a high profile match against fellow Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side AFC Leopards which they won 2-1.

" It was a good match for us because it felt like being away considering that Leopards are not a push-over and they have many fans behind them," Matano said then.

Matano further said the match helped him see weaknesses in his side and will embark working on them before they begin their Champions League campaign.

"When you play a team like Leopards you do not consider it as a friendly. It gives you the right competition that you need and your players are forced to show what they are capable of. For us, it has helped us identify weaknesses and areas requiring improvement."
