Blow for Gor Mahia as striker Edwin Lavasta and defender Israel Emuge ruled out of Confederation Cup battle

The towering Lavatsa has a foot injury that knocks him out of the fixture against Anse Re-Union of Seychelles while Ugandan Emuge was not registered
Gor Mahia coach Zradvko Logarusic has regretted the absence of two key players ahead of Confederations Cup match against Anse Re Union of Seychelles at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.

The team will miss the services of striker Edwin Lavatsa and Ugandan defender Israel Emuge for various reasons. Lavatsa has a foot injury that knocks him out of the fixture while Emuge was not registered for the tournament.

Speaking on the absence of the two, Logarusic said it weakens his squad but will work hard to cope. "We delayed to register Emuge yet he has already proved his worthiness in our defense and it will be a big miss to have him out," Logarusic told

"Lavatsa's injury looks bad and it means he cannot be there for this match and we do not know how long he will be out."

Emuge is one of the new players signed by the club and he has already proved a major asset after an outstanding performance in the Kenya Power Charity Cup.

Logarusic also expressed concern that the team has not picked up well ahead of their Saturday fixture owing to lack of competitive matches.

"We would have needed at least four weeks of competitive football to be ready for the showdown but as it is, we just have to honor the fixture as it is and hope to give our best."

The team has had poor preparations ahead of the match having played only three build up matches against Sony, Muhoroni and Kariobangi Sharks.

Gor Mahia were edged out of the first round of the Confederations Cup last year and will be looking to improve on that poor performance.
