Harambee Stars assistant coach Nandwa confident Kenya will roll past Nigeria

Stars and the Super Eagles are scheduled to meet in a World Cup qualifier on March 22 and the stand in tactician is optimistic his side will prevail

Harambee Stars stand in coach James Nandwa believes his charges can put Nigeria to the sword when the two sides meet in a World Cup qualifier on March 22.

Nandwa who has watched the Super Eagles struggle in the on-going Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, said the fact that his side easily beat Ethiopia in the regional tournament, last month yet the same team held their own against Nigeria, shows the quality of Kenya.

Nigeria struggled before edging out Ethiopia 2-0 in one of the preliminary matches of the Nations Cup on Wednesday.

"From Ethiopia’s performance we see that there has been a significant shift in the power of football. We have come a long way and I can confidently say that we can beat Nigeria when we meet next month,” Nandwa told Goal.com.

But Nandwa must first beat Libya during Wednesday’s international friendly in Tunis. Nandwa said the match is equally important for him at least in as far as building cohesion between his foreign charges and the local players is concerned.

“Before traveling to Nigeria, we need to build cohesion in the team. We have many young players coming on board and they need to get used to playing with foreign players who always make up a bulk of the side and this match in Tunis gives us just that opportunity."

The match was moved to Tunis due to security concerns in Libya which experienced a revolution just a few months ago.
