This clarification comes in the wake of speculations that Tenga, who has served the federation for the past two terms would consider running againTanzania Football Federation (TFF) President Leodegar Tenga has no intention of running for another term in office.
This clarification comes in the wake of speculations that Tenga, who has served the federation for the past two terms of four years each, would consider running again for the third term during the February 24 election.
“No thanks! I do not intend to run for re-election, contrary to frequent sensational and manufactured reports. Several members to the general meeting have also been asking whether I’ will stand or not, they should be rest assured that I’will not stand... not at all," Tenga told Tanzania's Daily News.
“I’ve served the TFF for most of my eight years life as a committed President and worked hard to achieve my objectives, which were clear from the very beginning. Our agenda was to build an institution and set up a clear system of operation and ensure passage of a new constitution, which I believe, was a key to transformation."
“I think I’ve done my part and helped the federation to set up a clear system and structure of organisation. I promised to leave a legacy and hopefully to some extent I’ve managed to deliver."
He said under his leadership TFF has not only re-written its constitution for it to match with the FIFA statutes, but they have also managed to establish independent organs that can make decisions without the interference of the executives.
“We’ve also succeeded in increasing the number of members to the general meeting, curb frequent wrangles in football,” he said, adding that the task for the coming leaders will be to focus on football development because there is already a workable system in place."
Tenga is one of the best players in Tanzania’s history. He has since become a respected administrator and representative, leading TFF as President since 2004.
