The experienced player, tore a muscle on his right thigh while on duty for the Harambee Stars during the first leg of the African Nations Championships (Chan) qualifier away to Burundi in December.
The two week lay off that proceeded proved costly for the versatile player, as it not only ruled him out of the return leg of the Chan qualifier, but forced him to reschedule a trial with an unnamed European club.
"The injury was not serious, I needed one week to heal and another four days to resume training. The injury came at a worst possible time, I missed out on an opportunity as everything was in place for me to travel to Europe including an invitation letter and air ticket, but I will not dwell on this too much. At the moment, my efforts are on pre season and gaining full fitness," Situma told Goal.com.
Situma is set to captain his club ahead of the 2013 season, as the 'Batoto Ba Mungu' look to reclaim the league and domestic titles. Sofapaka are scheduled to face Tanzania giants Azam FC in a friendly match in Nairobi on Saturday.
Sofapaka, who won the Kenya league title on their debut season in 2009, will open the 2013 campaign with a tight match against Mathare United on February 16 at Moi Kasarani. Their second fixture will be against Western Stima at Nyayo.
