Kenya champions Tusker FC’s hundered percent record in pre-season came to a halt after they were held to a 1-1 all draw by Tanzania giants Simba SC in a Mapinduzi Cup match played in Zanzibar on Friday.
Ugandan Khalid Awucho put matters level for the brewers who had won the opening match of the tournament after mauling Zanzibar’s Bandari FC.
The draw means both Tusker and Simba are tied on four points. Going into the match, Tusker under coach Robert Matano had won all their pre-season matches including a 3-0 and 1-0 victories over Simba and Yanga respectively.
Meanwhile, former Sofapaka coach Stewart Hall is confident Azam FC will do the well in the tournament despite settling to a barren draw with Coastal Union in the opening match of the tournament.
Englishman Hall, insists Azam was unlucky not to win the match played at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar on Thursday, saying his players demonstrated good spirit in the game.“We made a couple of dangerous forays but were denied by Coastal Union’s good defending.”
Both Simba and Tusker won their opening matches on Wednesday. Simba beat Jamhuri of Pemba 4-2, notching their goals through youthful Haruna Chanongo’s double in the 27th and 29th minutes, while other goals were netted by Shomary Kapombe (57) and Zambian striker Felix Sunzu (66).
