Kenya, South Korea FA strike partnership deal aimed at promoting the sport
The partnership will include exploring the possibility of Kenya’s Harambee Stars pitching camp in Korea as well as playing a friendly against the hosts
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and its South Korean counterparts have struck a partnership geared towards working together in various technical programmes.Kenya FA President Sam Nyamweya made the announcement on Thursday after meeting the Korean delegation led by ambassador to Kenya Cham Woo Kim.
The high profile meeting unanimously decided that the Kenyan and Korean football associations will work together in various technical programmes including the possibility of Harambee Stars holding a training camp and playing an international friendly in Korea ahead of the forthcoming World Cup Qualifiers.
Also present in the delegation was former Korean international player Choi Jae Sung, currently a sitting member of the Korean Parliament, together with his parliamentary colleagues, Kim Hack Yong, Kim Sun Tae and Hong Younpyo.
Korea will be hosting the World Soccer Congress in May this year and Kenya plus two other African countries will be expected to send youth representatives to the Congress.
The Korean delegation called on the local federation to assist her in lobbying other regional African countries in popularizing the congress during the forth coming Caf congress.
“We are very happy to note that Kenyan football has now moved to greater heights after the election of the current office. The Korean government is willing to accord assistance to the local federation and to continue with our corporation,” said Woo Kim.
Nyamweya on his part said that as a federation they were humbled by the gesture. “We feel deeply humbled by your visit and hope that our new found relationship will continue.”
Kenya FA was represented during the meeting by NEC members, Robert Asembo the Vice-Chairman, Hussein Terry in Charge of Youth Football, Tom Onyango Alila (in charge of Futsal) as well as newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Michael Esakwa.
