Kenya champions Tusker FC hammer Zanzibar's Bandari in Mapinduzi Cup opener

Coach Robert Matano's new acquisitions Jesse Were and Michael Olunga score again as the brewers turn on the screw to rout the Zanzibari side
Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions Tusker continued with their impressive form in pre season, after thrashing hosts Bandari 5-1 in the opening encounter of the Mapinduzi Cup tournament staged at the memorial stadium in Zanzibar on Wednesday.

Former Mathare United striker Jesse Were scored two goals and another new signing Ishmael Dunga was on the score sheet as the brewers went to the break with a healthy 3-0 lead.

Micheal Olunga added a brace during the second period before the hosts pulled a consolation in the dying moments of the game. Tusker coach Robert Matano was pleased with the result that maintained the team's hundred percent winning form in pre-season.

"I am very happy and satisfied. The boys are really warming up to my tactics. The only downside (from this match) is the injury to Andrew (Kyakyomba)," Matano told

The Kenyan team will now have a day's rest before facing Tanzanian champions Simba SC in their second Group match on Friday at (8pm Kenyan time). Tusker had thrashed the Msimbazi street-based outfit 3-0 in a friendly last week.
