Kenya's tactician reveals to Goal.com that the AFC Leopards winger will not be available against the Swallows after he was taken ill by malaria

AFC Leopards winger Paul Were has been dropped from Harambee Stars squad that is preparing to face Burundi in the CHAN qualifier return leg match at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

Stars head coach James Nandwa said that he was forced to make the drastic decision after the player was taken ill by malaria.

“Paul (Were) will not be part of our plans. He has been taken ill and we cannot have him. We want to wish him a quick recovery,” Nandwa told Goal.com.

Nandwa, however, said that he has adequate cover to step up in Were’s absence and there should be no cause for alarm as the rest of the squad is intact.

Kenya must beat the Swallows by 2-0 to be guaranteed qualification to the next stage of the competition having succumbed 1-0 in the first leg contest played in Bujumbura. The winner of the match will face Sudan.
