AFC chairman Magelo adamant he his still boss as leadership wrangles persist
Magelo’s stance comes barely a day after a section of club branches purportedly convened an AGM where they ‘elected’ Mathew Opwora as chairman
For the umpteenth time besieged AFC Leopards chairman Alex Ole Magelo has maintained that he is the bonafide boss and asked those plotting to oust him to wait until June when his term of office expires even as leadership wrangles show no signs of ending.Magelo’s call comes barely a day after a section of club branches purportedly convened an Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Kariokor Social Hall on Monday where they ‘elected’ Mathew Opwora- a Nairobi businessman, as the interim chairman.
The ‘election’ which was held behind the back of the current office holders, also picked Caleb Sunguti, a lecturer at the Kenya Institute of Administration (KIA), as the secretary general.
Also given the ‘green light’ by the branches was Kenya Football Fans Association (Kefofa) secretary general Sammy Maina, who was elected as organizing secretary.
Magelo however, dismissed the group urging them to wait until June when those interested in the club positions will have a chance to contest.
“These are the same usual suspects. They are not clean individuals who can drive the club forward,” Magelo told Goal.com.
“Instead of helping build the club, they are busy fighting it. They should first clear their names because they have been accused of siphoning cash from the club’s bank account before they seek any elective posts.”
Ingwe has been rocked with endless leadership tussles pitting Magelo against Ssemi Aina led group which has seen the two factions engage in several court battles.
