Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Tusker FC could face African powerhouses Al Ahly during next month's annual Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar.

The two teams have officially confirmed participation at the annual competition slated to kick-off on January 1, with the Egyptians replacing Rwandan side Patriotic Army (APR) who opted out of the event.

Tanzanian side Coastal Union and hosts Jamuhuri are the latest entrants into the two week tourney that will now comprise of nine teams.

The brewers have been pooled alongside Azam, Mtibwa Sugar, Young Africans, (Tanzania) and Miembeni (Zanzibar) in Group B. Group A consists of Al Ahly (Egypt), Simba, Coastal Union (Tanzania) and Jamuhuri (Zanzibar).

Tusker Coach Robert Matano says the competition will provide adequate preparations for his refurbished squad ahead of the grueling 2013 season. Tusker, who will represent Kenya in the African Champions League and Cecafa Cup, have so far released nine players and acquired five.
"I am happy because we will be facing seasoned teams. This gives the inexperienced players in our squad a glimpse of what to expect come next season," Matano told
