Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Tusker FC have been invited to the annual Mapinduzi Cup tournament.

The 12 day competition to be staged in Zanzibar, officially kicks-off on January 1, 2013, and will bring together three teams from Tanzania and two guest sides.

The invited teams include Tusker FC (Kenya) and APR (Rwanda), while Simba SC, Yanga, Mtibwa Sugar and Azam will represent the host nation. The Zanzibar FA are the organizers of the tourney.

"On behalf of the entire Zanzibar people, we are taking the opportunity to officially invite your esteemed team bearing in mind the brotherhood relationship between the two nations as well as the reputation of your side in the East and Central Africa region," said the invitation letter signed by the Zanzibar FA Secretary general, Massoud Attai Masoud.

According to Tusker FC director Charles Obwiny, the team intends to depart the country on December 24 for a six day training session in Dar es Salaam before crossing over to Zanzibar in time for the all expense paid tournament.

The defending Kenya league champions - who have heavily recruited during the ongoing transfer window -  are preparing to represent the country in the African Champions League and regional Cecafa club championships for the second consecutive season next year.
