Football Kenya Federation vice-Chairman Robert Asembo has congratulated the federation President Sam Nyamweya for being awarded the Moran of Burning Spear (MBS) by President Mwai Kibaki at State House Nairobi on Wednesday during the 49th Jamuhuri Celebrations.
This is the first time a football administrator has been awarded with an MBS in the history of Kenyan football.
The prestigious Presidential prize was in recognition of Nyamweya’s contribution in the country’s most loved sport, which has witnessed a drastic development of football in the country in the last year.
The first year with Nyamweya in charge of football matters saw the federation work closely with the Kenyan Premier League to ensure a competitive and well run league.
The Division one, provincial, country, district and women leagues have also been very vibrant in the past year.
Corporate sponsors including Tusker, Coca Cola and Kenya Power and Lighting Company just to name a few, have also returned in numbers to support the sport, thanks to the structures put in place by the current office.
Security and refereeing standards have also improved tremendously, with fans returning to the stadia in large numbers to support their favourite clubs as well as the national team.
“This is a step in the right direction and it is now clear that the federation’s effort is being noticed at all levels. I would like to congratulate my chairman Nyamweya for scooping the award because he more than deserves it and we work harder to improve the standards of football in the country."
