Stars assistant coach James Nandwa takes charge of team ahead of Burundi duel

Kenya FA President Sam Nyamweya confirms that the former Tusker and Rangers coach will be in charge of the team for the match in Bujumbura
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Sam Nyamweya has confirmed that Harambee Stars assistant coach James Nandwa will take charge of the team ahead of the African Championships qualifiers away to Burundi on Sunday.

Michel has been missing from the Stars camp this week amidst reports of a stand off with the Kenya FA.

"Nandwa will be in charge of the Chan team. They are local based players and we believe he (Nandwa) understands them better," Nyamweya told

Nyamweya added, "Nandwa did a fantastic job at the just concluded Cecafa tournament and we believe he knows the players better than Michel. He (Nandwa) will be in charge of the team until we decide otherwise."

As earlier reported by, Michel has stayed away from the Kenya team camp for unexplained reasons.

James Nandwa  - who was officially appointed assistant coach on Monday- and Ken Odhiambo who assisted him during the just concluded Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, now have three days to prepare the side before the Bujumbura engagement.
