Newly appointed Harambee Stars assistant coach James Nandwa has included five players from the squad that did duty at the recently concluded Cecafa tournament, to the team that is preparing for the African Nations Championships qualifiers.
Custodian Duncan Ochieng', defenders Abdalla Juma and David Ochieng', plus forwards Paul Were and Edwin Lavatsa have been called up to the team that is set to face Burundi away on Sunday.
This move is likely to fuel speculation that Nandwa - who led a select Kenya side to the finals of the just concluded regional Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup competition - is set to take full charge of the Kenyan squad for the Bujumbura assignment.
Goal.com has reliably learnt that Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is seriously considering Nandwa to guide Stars against Burundi, following a yet to be revealed stand-off with head coach Henri Michel.
The team is expected to depart for the first leg of the assignment on Thursday.
The African Nations Championships is a newly introduced continental tournament, currently in its third edition, that is a preserve of players featuring in their respective local leagues.
