Kenya FA now rewards James Nandwa with full time job as Stars' assistant coach

EXCLUSIVE: Nyamweya reveals to that the former Rangers FC tactician will now deputize for Michel and details of the deal will be out soon

After guiding Harambee Stars to second place in the just concluded Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, James Nandwa has now been appointed the assistant coach of the national team on a permanent deal.

Nandwa, whose side succumbed 1-2 to Uganda Cranes in the final of the regional tournament on Saturday, will now deputise for French coach Henri Michel.

Kenya FA President Sam Nyamweya revealed the new development to on Monday. Nyamweya said details of the contract will be revealed soon after Nandwa agrees to put pen to paper on the same.

"We have decided to appoint James Nandwa as the assistant coach of the team with immediate effect. He (Nandwa) will now work closely with Henri Michel. Nandwa has proved beyond reasonable doubts that he is a very able coach and his vast experience will be of great help to the main team."

"We just saw what he did in Kampala in the just concluded Cecafa and we believe if he works closely with Michel, then Kenya is destined for great achievements."

An elated Nandwa confirmed he was ready for the task. "It will definitely be a tough challenge but I am ready to deliver good results. I thank the President for the appointment and I promise to do my best," said Nandwa, who locally has handled Utalii FC, Tusker and relegated side Rangers FC.

Nandwa's charges in Cecafa Cup performed beyond expectations of many Kenyans, reaching the final of the regional showpiece for the first time since 2008.

Kenya, were pooled in Group "A"alongside defending champions Uganda Cranes, Ethiopia and debutantes South Sudan in what was arguably the group of death. After losing 1-0 to Cranes, the team edged out South Sudan 2-0, drubbed Ethiopia 3-1 to qualify for the last eight.

In the quarters, Kenya beat Malawi 1-0 before they gunned down Zanzibar Heroes 4-2 on post match penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation and extra time to reach the final.
