Uganda Cranes will meet Kenya’s Harambee Stars in the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup finals on Saturday after beating Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Stars 3-0 in the semi-finals played at the Namboole stadium on Thursday in Kampala, Uganda.
Danger man Robert Ssentongo was in red hot form grabbing a brace after the breather to add onto Emmanuel Okwi’s 12th minute strike to seal the victory.
Okwi lightened up the modestly attended match, mainly with the home supporters when he neatly slotted home to leave Juma Kaseja crestfallen between the sticks for the Tanzanians.
Cranes showed their striking skills taking the chances that they created to put the game beyond the reach of their opponents whose chances were far and wide.
Ssentongo widened the lead just seven minutes after the break firing into the net courtesy of a precise feed from winger Hamis Kiiza who did the spade work roaming the right wing to cross the ball.
When Tanzania were pulling strings with Mrisho Ngassa and Mwinyi Kazimoto showing their intent of hauling their side back into the game, Ssentongo struck again in the 72nd minute capitalizing on Kaseja’s mistake who spilled a Moses Oloya free-kick, only for the marksman to pounce and fire into the net.
A late surge by Kilimanjaro Stars, was too little too late. Ngassa came close with a powerful volley in the 80th minute but it could not trouble Cranes custodian Hamza Moge who safely nabbed it.
Uganda will now face Kenya in the final while Tanzania will confront ‘brothers’ Zanzibar in the third place play off.
