Reigning champions maintain their quest for back to back titles beating Ethiopia 2-0 to set up a last four date with seasoned rivals Kilimanjaro Stars
Reigning champions Uganda Cranes defeated Ethiopia 2-0 in a one sided quarter-final clash at the ongoing Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup tournament played at the Namboole Stadium on Tuesday.
Geoffrey 'Baba' Kizito and Robert Ssentongo scored either side of halftime to seal the victory that ensured the hosts yet again secured a semi-final berth.
Bobby Williamson’s charges got off the blocks in spectacular fashion in this encounter played before a capacity crowd and upcoming midfielder Geoffrey Kizito reacted quickest to a loose ball to slot home an early lead.
Ethiopia who are the sole representatives from the Cecafa region at the upcoming Afcon 2013, found the going tough in a bid to get back into this match, as the midfield duo of Kizito, Moses Oloya and forward Roberto Sssentongo dominated the proceedings almost at will.
Uganda then extended the lead midway through the second half after a fine individual play from Ethiopian based Ssentongo who held over the challenge from an opposing defender, to slot home a left footed curling shot.
The victory ensures Uganda what promises to be a pulsating last four encounter against seasoned rivals Tanzania.
Earlier, Kenya's Harambee Stars qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament for the first time since 2008, after edging out Malawi Flames 1-0 courtesy of a Mike Baraza goal at the same venue.
The Kenyans, under coach James Nandwa, will now face Zanzibar in the other semi-final on Thursday. Zanzibar dumped out Burundi 6-5 on post match penalties to reach the semis.
