The lanky Gor Mahia striker will start his first match in the Cecafa regional tournament as coach Nandwa decides to rest AFC Leopards' Mike Barasa
Gor Mahia towering striker Edwin Lavasta has been given the node to start in the Kenya match against Ethiopia at Namboole Stadium on Tuesday.
Lavasta, will be making his first start in the regional tournament, comes in as a replacement for AFC Leopards striker Mike Baraza, who has been demoted to the bench.
The other change made by Nandwa sees Sofapaka’s Anthony Kimani benched for Humphrey Mieno.
Nandwa’s side will be seeking for a semi-final slot against the Central African side starting (4pm Kenyan time).
The coach remained confident that Kenya will prevail over Malawi. “Malawi will provide a difficult and exciting challenge and we are very ready for it. They have a very good record against us but that will count for nothing,” Nandwa told Goal.com.
“I was impressed with how they recovered after a false start in this tournament (losing to Rwanda in the opening game) and that shows they have the mental strength. However, I believe in my players and with the way we've prepared, we are sure to pull some surprises.”
Squad to face Malawi; Duncan Ochieng, Anthony Kimani (capt), David Owino, Joackins Atudo, Abdallah Juma, David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng’, Clifford Miheso, Bernard Mango’li, Humphrey Mieno, Rama Salim and Edwin Lavasta.
