MacDonald Mariga finally featured in his first match for Inter Milan this season coming off the bench as second half substitute in the 80th minute to help the Nerazzurri beat Parlemo 1-0 in a Serie ‘A’ match played on Sunday at the San Siro.
‘Big Mac’ as he is popularly known, prior to this tie had not kicked the ball in any competitive fixture after a nagging shoulder injury picked last season limited him to the treatment table.
He returned to first team training a month ago and was unused substitute in Inter’ last two matches against Cagliari and his former club Parma.
Inter picked the win courtesy of an own goal by Parlemo’s Garcia Santiago in the 75th minute. The win left the Andrea Stramaccioni side in position three on the log with 31 points from 15 matches. Leaders Juventus are top with 35 points while Napoli is second on 33 points.
Victor Wanyama played the entire 90 minutes as Celtic were held to a 1-1 home draw by Arbroath in a Scottish Cup fourth round match played at the Celtic Arena.
The Bhoys took an early lead through an own goal by Alex Kedie in the 36th minute. However, the visitors continued to show their quality with much composure giving the Scottish giants a run for their money and their efforts paid off with just four minutes to time when Steven Doris gave Arbroath an equalizer to set a replay.
Celtic looked comfortable from kick-off, and despite not having an abundance of chances on target, it was one-way traffic right for most of the first half. Ibrahim started the attacks on the seventh minute when he curled an effort just around the post.
Dennis Oliech came in as a late substitute in the 86th minute as AJ Auxerre picked a point after registering a 1-1 away draw to Chateauroux in a French Ligue 2 match played at the Stade Gaston Petiton Friday.
Auxerre were the first to find the target courtesy of an own goal scored by Lo Sambou in the 46th minute before the hosts leveled matters in injury time through P. Garita.
The point picked however, did not do much help Auxerre whose fortunes continue to dwindle.
They are currently rooted at position 16 in the 20 team-table with a paltry 18 points. They are eight points above bottom placed Sedan and 14 points adrift of leaders Monaco.
Oliech’s former club Nantes is second in the standings with 30 points.
Ayub Timbe watched from the bench as his club Racing Genk bagged three crucial away points in hard fought 4-3 win over Lokeren in a Belgian league match played on Sunday.
Jelle Vossen was in sparkling form grabbing a hat-trick for Genk which included a spot-kick in the 30th minute as his team mate Joseph Monrose added another with five minutes left to cap the win.
The home side scored their goals through L. Leko, Mokulu Tembe and K. Persoons after getting an assist from Patosi. The win leaves Genk at position four on 32 points, just a point and position behind Lokeren from 18 rounds of matches.
Anderlecht is still holding firmly onto their lead on 40 points as Zulte-Waregem and follows closely on 34 points.
Patrick ‘Armando’ Osiako will be in action on Tuesday night in a Ligat Ha’ al (league) as his club Hapoel Be’er sheva hosts Hapoel Ramat Gan in a league face off. A win for Be’er Sheva would catapult them to position six on the log with 16 points.
