Simba striker Mrisho Ngassa was the hero notching five goals and setting up John Bocco as Tanzania whitewash Somalia in Cecafa thriller
John Bocco was also on the score sheet grabbing a brace to complete the rout. Tanzania began strongly and the youthful Ngassa found the target in the second minute before widening the lead in the 24th minute and the goal galore continued after the breather.
The Ocean Stars were a disjointed lot and could not keep pace with the speedy Tanzanian attack which ran rings around their defense.
After the breather, Somalia tried to frustrate the strong opposition, but it was not long before their defense crumbled again.
Somalia’s only clear cut chance came through Mohamed Ali in the 84th minute and with the goal at his mercy he blasted way off the mark.
The win saw Taifa Stars qualify for the quarter-finals as Group B runners-up on six points. Burundi also sails to the quarters as leaders after beating Sudan 1-0 in another Group B match played at the Wankulukuku stadium.
Burundi finished on nine points after winning all their matches.
