CECAFA 2012: Uganda 4-0 South Sudan: Cranes complete rout to finish unbeaten
Brain Umony put Burundi to the sword with a well taken double in the 24th and 39th mins before Ssentogo and Hamis Kiiza completed the rout
Uganda Cranes maintained their unbeaten run in Group ‘A’ of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup after hammering South Sudan 4-0 in the final group match played at Namboole on Friday.Lethal danger man Brain Umony put The Bright Stars to the sword with a well taken double in the 24th and 39th minute while Robert Ssentogo added another just two minutes after the breather before Hamis Kiiza struck in the 78th minute to complete the rout.
The win is a perfect run for the Bob Williamson coached side after beating Kenya’s Harambee Stars 1-0 in the opener and overcoming a challenge from Ethiopia’s Black Lions by a similar margin in their second match.
For South Sudan, it was a harsh welcome in the regional tournament since they received autonomy from their northern neighbours.
The Bright Stars as they are nick-named, failed to shine in their debut season losing all their matches to exit without a single point.
Uganda finish on top of the group on nine points two ahead of group runners-up Kenya on six points while Ethiopia finished third.
Cranes coach Bob Williamson is seeking to defend the crown he won last year in Dar es Salaam after beating Rwanda’s Amavubi 3-2 in the final.
