CECAFA 2012: Tanzania 0-1 Burundi: Kilimanjaro Stars succumb to Swallows

Burundi made it two wins in a row to join hosts and defending champions Uganda Cranes in the last eight of the Cecafa Cup regional tournament

Burundi Swallows handed Tanzania's Kilimanjaro Stars a 1-0 beating at the ongoing Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in a Group B match played at Namboole Stadium, Kampala, on Wednesday to book a quarter-final slot.

Burundi made it two wins in a row to accumulate six points which earned them the last eight spot while Suleimane Ndikumana who notched the lone goal of the tie in the 53rd minute through a penalty, took his total tally to three.

Ndikumana grabbed a brace in his team’s 5-1 demolition of Somalia in their first match on Sunday. The teams had remained deadlocked for the entire first half in an even play but which could not yield results.

Both sides showed intent of grabbing a win but were unlucky to find the target. Despite the defeat, Tanzania maintained second spot in the Group three points same as Sudan which lies third by virtue of their inferior goal difference.

In another Group "B" match, Sudan's Nile Crocodiles registered their first win after beating Somalia's Oceans Stars 1-0.

Mohamed Farrid scored the lone goal for the Crocodiles in the 85th minute when the match was almost headed for a barren draw.

The Sudanese dominated the proceedings for the long spell but they were wasteful in front of goal.

The Crocodiles now have three points from two games while Somalia who, suffered a 5-1 drubbing by Burundi in the first match remains rooted at the bottom of with no point.

Sudan could have taken an early lead in the match in the sixth minute of the game when Mohamed Murtada neatly headed a corner-kick taken by Farsi Abdalalh but the alert Somali custodian Maalim Abdulahhi was up to the task parrying the ball out of danger.
