Goal.com follows the exploits of Kenyans playing their football outside of the country, in the top European leagues and beyond

SCOTLAND

Victor Wanyama
featured in the entire match as Celtic FC succumbed 1-0 to Inverness in a Scottish league match played at Celtic Park on Saturday.

Billy McKay scored the lone goal that made all the difference for the visitors in the 60th minute to hand the Hoops a setback in front of their passionate fans.

Wanyama, who has been the mainstay at Celtic’s centre of midfield, made an attempt with a fierce trade mark volley but the opposition goalkeeper parried the ball out of danger.

Despite the defeat, the Bhoys emerged unscathed as they remain top of the SPL log with 25 points from 14 games above second placed Aberdeen.

FRANCE

Dennis Oliech failed to sparkle in front of home fans as his side AJ Auxerre were handed a 2-0 beating by former side Nantes in a French Ligue 2 match played on Saturday.

Going into the match, Auxerre were desperate for a win to revive their hope in the crumbling campaign. Oliech who was out to prove a point to his former employers, could equally not rise to the occasion as his side put up a disjointed performance.

Eudeline Yohan grabbed the opener at the half hour mark to put the visitors ahead and Yong Lee wrapped up the game in injury time to ensure Nantes left with maximum points at the Stade  Abbe Deschmaps.

The win propelled Nantes to the top of the table while Auxerre slid to position 16 with 17 points.

BELGIUM

Ayub Timbe came in as a second half substitute on as his league side KRC Genk were held to a 1-1 home draw by OH Leuven in a Belgian league match played at Cristal arena on Sunday.

Playing under an average 21,000 crowd, Genk drew the first blood in the 21st minute when T. Buffel set danger man G. Plet to slot home.

The match was destined for a draw until added time when Timbe’s dream of collecting maximum points went up in smoke with Sawaneh converting a late spot-kick to ensure his side left with a point.

Genk now lies fourth on the log with 29 points in the 16 team table. Anderlecht are still perched top on 37points as Zulte-Waregem follows at position two on 33 points. Timbe’s next engagement will be on Sunday away to Lokeren.

ITALY

MacDonald Mariga will be looking to start his first league match this season when Inter Milan take on Parma in a Serie A league match on Monday night.

Mariga returned to first team training a month ago and was unused sub in Milan’s 2-2 home draw against Cagliari last weekend.

Should Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni hand the Kenyan a starting role, he will be facing his former club where he honed his skills before joining the Nerazzurri.

Inter is currently rooted third on the log with 28 points behind Juventus and Fiorentina.

ISRAEL

Patrick ‘Armando’ Osiako will be angling for a starting role when his club Hapoel Be’er  Sheva locks horns with Hapoel Tel Aviv in a Ligat Ha’al (league match) on Monday.

The derby tie has a lot at stakes as each side will not only be fighting for three crucial points but bragging rights as well.

Tel Aviv is currently third on the log with 21 points while Osiako’s Beer Sheva is at position 11 with 10 points. Victory will be a shot in the arm for Osiako’s team as it will propel them to position nine on the log standings.

SWEDEN

Robert Mambo did not feature on Saturday as his side Dalkurd FF finished the league race with an emphatic 5-0 demolition of Enkoping in a Swedish division one match played at the Domnarvsvallen.

C. Omeke grabbed a brace opening the scoring account in the fifth minute before adding another in the 35th minute. A. Awad, A. Ahmed and T. Johansson were also on target with a goal piece to condemn the visitors.

The win saw Mambos’ side finish at mid-table (position eight)with 34 points, 19 shy of leaders  Ostersunds FK while Enkpoings finished rock bottom with just eight points from 26 games.
