Yonatel Kebede scored the only goal at the hour mark after getting a neat feed from Said Saladin to slot into the net for Ethiopia's first victory

Ethiopia began their 2012 Cecafa campaign to a flying start beating debutantes South Sudan 1-0 in the opening match played at the Namboole stadium in Kampala on Saturday.

Yonatel Kebede scored the only goal of the match at the hour mark after getting a neat feed from Said Saladin to slot into the net. The match had begun on a high pace with the debutantes being put on the back foot for long spell in the early exchanges.

Saladin, who was a constant threat to the Sudanese defense, could have scored an early goal in the first half when he wasput through with an inviting cross from therightflank, by Aklilu Ayenew but hisfree header went inchesoff the cross bar.

After the breather, Ethiopia which is the only team in the Cecafa region to have qualified for next years African Cup of Nations finals to be held in South Africa, upped the momentum, of the game and their efforts were rewarded in the 60th minute.

Panom Atick and Massoud Mohammed were particularly brilliant for the Black Lions (Ethiopia) in midfield locking out their opponents in the nerve of action while at the same time feeding the attackers upfront.

With little chances which were far and wide for the debutantes, they opted to do much of the defending amidst an onslaught from the opposition.

Girma Adane will however, be cautions in the next match after he was booked early on in the game in the 32nd minute after a hard challenge on his Sudanese marker as he forced his way towards the goal mouth.

Ethiopia now have three points from one match in Group A. Other teams in the pool are hosts Uganda and Kenya.
