Kenya has been picked to stage the 2013 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup tournament. This is after the regional soccer body, Cecafa, agreed at a congress held in Kampala on Friday, to grant the hosting rights to the Kenyan FA.
The news was confirmed to Goal.com by the body's Secretary General Nicholas Musonye. "Kenya will stage the competition in 2013," confirmed Musonye.
"Other details like dates and logistics will be decided later. I think they (Kenya) have time to sort out issues to do with sponsorships and other related matters. If they fail to meet the requirements, then Cecafa Congress has put Rwanda on standby."
Meanwhile, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairman Sam Nyamweya has welcomed the move. "We will embark on preparations immediately. If all goes well, we plan to spread the regional competition with Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu fans witnessing the action."
Kenya was controversially stripped of the hosting rights of this year's events, with the organizers preferring neighbors Uganda. This year's edition of the tournament kicks-off on Saturday in Kampala.
