Scottish coach Bobby Williamson reveals to Goal.com that his patience had run out on the K'ogalo lead striker hence the decision to wield the axe
Gor Mahia forward Dan "Mzee" Sserunkuma has been omitted from the final Uganda Cranes squad ahead of the upcoming Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.
Sserunkuma, who had earlier indicated his willingness to play for the Kenya national team Harambee Stars, was named in Cranes’ provisional squad but seems to have been left out after failing to report to camp with only three days remaining to the start of the regional tournament.
The former City Stars forward is expected to feature for Gor Mahia against Sofapaka in the Kenyan domestic Cup (Fkf) tournament final on Tuesday.
Cranes coach Bobby Williamson revealed to Goal.com that his patience had run out on Sserunkuma. “We are informed that the player (Sserunkuma) is injured so we have sought for other alternatives,” said Williamson.
Sweden-based play maker Kayongo Mutumba and Sula Matovu are other casualties. Mutumba will not be available since he will be representing his Swedish side AIK in a Europa Cup match against Napoli on Thursday.
The trio's slots are expected to be filled by exciting Vietnam-based winger Martin Oloya, USA-based Henry Kalungi and Joseph Ochaya of Asante Kotoko.
The annual tournament officially kicks-off on Saturday, with the hosts Uganda facing Kenya in the seond match of the day at Namboole Stadium.
