Veteran Tanzanian goalkeeper Ivan Mapunda is in line to start for Gor Mahia against AFC Leopards in the FKF Cup semi-finals on Saturday.

The former Bandari FC custodian looks set to replace Gor Mahia captain Jeremy Onyango between the posts after the latter opted out of the squad for the potentially thrilling duel.

The news was confirmed exclusively to Goal.com by Gor Mahia coach Zdravko Logarusic.

"Jeremy just came in today (Friday) from national duty (where he featured for Kenya in the 1-0 defeat to Tanzania). He's asked to be left out saying he's not in the right frame of mind to play against AFC Leopards."

"I have two reliable and quality goalkeepers, we (the technical bench) will make a decision to pick from against AFC Leopards."

Ivan Mapunda and Wycliffe Kasaya are the club's reserve keepers. The absence of Onyango in Saturday's encounter against Gor's bitter rivals is likely to send tongues wagging.

However, the development could turn out to be a blessing in disguise as the shot stopper has displayed erratic form off late.

Precisely, the 27 year-old was at fault for the goal K'ogalo conceded against Thika United last weekend. Gor drew the match 1-1 when a win would have been enough to clinch the club the first league title in 17 years.

Jeremy also manned the posts for Harambee Stars against Tanzania in mid-week and was hugely blamed for Aggrey Morris 7th minute strike in a match Kenya lost 1-0.
