Kenya midfielder Victor Wanyama admits he is surprised and humbled to be nominated for the annual Sports Personalilty of the Year (SOYA) Awards.
According to the event organizers, the award is offered to the 'outstanding sports personality' who has not only brought fame to the country (Kenya) but also made Kenyans proud during the course of the past sporting year.
"I am surprised and very humbled to hear this encouraging (nomination) news, I am also elated and wish to thank the organizers and judges for this gesture."
"Kenyans know that I will never let them down," the Celtic ace, who notched against Barcelona in Uefa Champions League told Goal.com.
Wanyama, will however, have to beat off stiff competition from mostly athletes who include 800m World and Olympic record holder David Rudisha, 3000m Olympic champions Ezekiel Kemboi, Kenya's top swimmer Jason Dunford, Paralympian Abraham Tarbei, Double World champion Vivian Cheruiyot amongst others, to clinch the overall prize.
The winner will be announced during the final gala scheduled for December 6 in Nairobi.
