The federation now says Kasarani has been booked for another event on Saturday hence the decision as pay TV Supersport to air match live
In a twist of events, Football Kenya Federation have once again been forced to reschedule the eagerly awaited FKF Cup semi-final derby between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards to Sunday at Kasarani.
This is the umpteenth time the Kenya FA is shifting dates of this match. Initially, the match was to be played during Mashujaa Day celebrations but was postponed as it collided with league fixtures.
The Kenya FA then settled for Sunday (November 18) but again was brought forward to Saturday (November 17) to facilitate easy travel of fans.
But in the latest move, the Kenya FA now says Kasarani in unavailable on Saturday hence the decision to shift the match once again to Sunday.
“Kasarani had already been booked for another function. We are informed that Peponi School will be holding activities at the venue and it can only be available on Sunday.”
“We have no choice but push the game to Sunday,” a Kenya FA official told Goal.com.
Meanwhile, pay TV channel Supersport will air the derby live from Kasarani. This was after a meeting between Supersport representatives and Kenya FA officials.
Earlier, the South African-based company, who are the broadcast sponsors of KPL, had indicated that they will no longer air Gor Mahia matches following crowd trouble witnessed after season ending duel against Thika United.
The meeting also agreed that all Gor Mahia matches will now be played at Kasarani until the club provides the federation and KPL with a detailed Safety and Security and Anti-Hooliganism policy for future matches.
