Former Harambee Stars assistant coach Salim Ali believes both Zdravko Logarusic and the Gor Mahia playing staff panicked ahead of their ultimate league match against Thika United.
Gor Mahia, who led the standings for the past three weeks, lost the top position and title to Tusker in a dramatic final day of the season after being held to a 1-1 draw with Thika United.
"The occasion was huge, none of the (Gor) players and coach might have experienced this before. It was a huge burden of expectation that sadly, the team ended up not fulfilling."
Ali, who has also handled Mathare United and Sofapaka FC in the Kenyan Premier League, cited the 'rushed' substitutions' by Logarusic and the 'unnecessary fumble' by Gor Mahia keeper Jeremy Onyango as cases in point.
"Removing Ali (Victor) for Kevin Omondi (in the first half) was a huge gamble that backfired. Then Nasio was replaced by Midenyo (George) who has had a below par season. And most of it all, their goalkeeper (Jeremy) made an unnecessary error that one cant afford to make in such a much that gave Thika the opening goal."
The Croatian coach walked out of the pitch in a huff, after the game and appeared to ignore the waiting journalists for the mandatory full time interviews.
