The Scottish star appeared alongside the coach in Saturday's press briefing, a biggest hint that he could be in line to captain Kenya on Tuesday

Kenya midfielder Victor Wanyama is set to be handed a prime role by new Harambee Stars coach Henri Michel.

The Scottish star appeared alongside the coach in Saturday's press briefing, a biggest hint that he could be in contention to be selected as captain for the friendly against South Africa.

Dennis Oliech, the team's captain during the previous reigns of coaches Francis Kimanzi and Zedekiah Otieno, was conspicuously absent during the briefing, amidst claims that he might not be fit to start the game in mid-week after picking up a knock in training.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) CEO Omondi Aduda also hinted that Wanyama could captain Kenya in the match set for Nyayo Stadium on Tuesday night. "Wanyama's presence in this press conference means a lot. There is no need of speculating because the coach knows what he his doing," Aduda told Goal.com Kenya.

The French coach however, steered clear of the matter of who will wear the armband come Tuesday.

Wanyama also refused to comment on the issue but instead chose to talk about the upcoming challenge. "I am impressed with the organization and preparations ahead of this duel and am looking forward to the game. All the players are in good shape and raring to go. Fans should come in large numbers expecting a good match."

"Such games are important as they help us improve ahead of competitive matches. That is the message the coach has been passing through to the players."
