Santos' club Coastal Union will be engaged in a league match against his former club Simba SC in the Tanzanian Vodacom League. Santos is part of the professionals coach Henri Michel had called for the international friendly against South Africa on October 16 (Kick-off 7pm Kenyan time).
"Yes, I have received the invite from the federation but we have a crucial match against Simba this weekend. I would prefer the federation to engage my club so that I join up with my teammates immediately after the game."
"I hope this issue (club v country row) will be amicably settled," added the former Tusker FC midfielder, from his base in Tanzania.
Earlier, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairman Sam Nyamweya had threatened to petition FIFA if the attacking midfielder wasn't released before the weekend.
"We will not accept such a situation where our player is not available for national team duties and we will take up the matter with Fifa if Coastal Union do not do what they are supposed to do. It is very clear that Fifa friendly matches are supposed to be played from Saturday to Tuesday and as a result no other matches should be on," said Nyamweya.
