Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has finally petitioned Council of East and Central Africa (CECAFA) to sack secretary general Nicholas Musonye.
CECAFA statues indicate that the Secretary General's position be occupied by a Kenyan to harmonize operations within the official Secretariat based in Nairobi.
However, following the recent spat between Musonye and FKF due to the controversy surrounding the hosting rights of this year's Senior Challenge Cup tournament and the argument that preceded the clash in fixture dates of the Challenge Cup and the African Nations Championships, the latter has informed CECAFA President Leodgar Tenga in writing their wish to replace the veteran administrator.
“Musonye has persistently attacked the elected leadership of Football Kenya Federation, directed credibility attacks on Harambee Stars head coach Henri Michel and insinuated publicly that Kenya does not need CECAFA in violation of Artcile 8 section 7,” read a letter signed by FKF C.E.O Ludovick Aduda.
“We are therefore, petitioning CECAFA congress to replace him (Musonye) with a more competent Kenyan personality, who will not only reinvigorate the CECAFA Secretariat to offer co ordinate services to member nations but also respect the member Associations elected leaders.”
This will be the second time in two months Kenya is seeking to petition a CECAFA related matter. Only last month, Kenya unsuccessfully asked CAF to revert the hosting rights of the Senior Challenge Cup tournament to Kenya. CECAFA had opted to move the competition to Uganda.
