Kenya national soccer team coach Henri Michel has released his first squad ahead of the upcoming CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup tournament in November in Kampala, Uganda.
The Frenchman, who was appointed by the Football Kenya Federation one month ago, selected the provisional squad of 28 to officially start preparations in October ahead of the annual regional competition.
“The federation has decided to give the coach (Michel) a free hand in selection of players, training and identifying opposition for build up matches. I believe he (Michel) is one of the most qualified coaches and will produce the desired results,” Federation head of Technical Committee Elly Mukolwe told Goal.com Kenya.
Five players are primed to make their official debuts in the squad while another five of the squad, all of whom feature in the Kenyan Premier League have been offered a chance to resurrect their international careers.
The incoming players include Gor Mahia's Solomon Nasio, Christopher Wekesa and Leonard Mosoti, Ulinzi Stars forward Wilfred Ochomo, AFC Leopards Edwin Wafula and little known Thika United midfielder John Nairuka.
AFC Leopards duo of Mike Baraza and Charles Okwemba, Ulinzi Stars' Jacktone Odhiambo, Sofapaka's Osbourne Monday, and Congolese born Kenyan forward Bob Mugallia are amongst the players recalled. Gor Mahia who are the inform team in the Kenyan top flight league have the most number of players in the squad.
Besides the CECAFA tournament, Kenya will also feature in the African Nations Championships qualifiers where they are primed to face Burundi in the preliminaries in early December.
