Mariga damaged cruciate ligaments after falling awkwardly during a league clash featuring for Parma FC on loan against Novara earlier this year

Kenya international midfielder Macdonald Mariga has been penciled in for a mid-November return to competitive action.

The combative box to box midfielder, damaged cruciate ligaments after falling awkwardly during a league clash featuring Parma FC (where he was on loan) against Novara earlier this year.

"This has been a very challenging period for me, the initial diagnosis by the club doctor was a seven month lay off. I am happy to note that everything is on schedule for a return before the end of November," Mariga told Kenya on telephone interview from Italy.

Inter Milan opted to exclude Mariga from this season's Europa League squad pending his full recovery, and the 25 year old concurs that the decision was justified, but optimistic that he will make the cut come January, when the coach is allowed to make adjustments to the initial squad.

"It wouldn't have made sense to include me (in the Europa League squad) whilst am injured. The club was provided with only 25 slots, but come January, I believe, ill be donning the Nerrazuri jersey.

Mariga, who is Kenya's most successful footballer of all time having clinched the Serie A, UEFA Champions League and Coppa Itallia titles during the 2010 season, has also thanked the club, family and supporters for their support.

"I wish to thank the club (Inter Milan) and everyone else for assisting me throughout this period. I am now jogging freely without any pain, and also working with the ball."

Inter Milan who were defeated by AS Roma during the second round of Seria A games a fortnight ago, are currently placed ninth on the table standings, having amassed three points out of a possible six.
