EXCLUSIVE: A source reveals to Goal.com that federation's Central province official George Wainaina has resigned to contest governorship seat
A major vacuum is looming in Football Kenya Federation (FKF) office as it has emerged that one of it’s National Executive Member (NEC) has tendered resignation to contest for the Kiambu County governors seat.
A source exclusively revealed to Goal.com Kenya on Wednesday that George Wainaina, a NEC member from Central Province, had handed in his resignation to the federation chairman Sam Nyamweya.
“It is true that Wainaina has resigned has a Nec member for Central province. He (Wainaina) wants to contest the Kiambu governors’ seat hence the decision to quit the federation.”
The source revealed further that Nyamweya was yet to approve the same. “It doesn’t matter how Nyamweya takes Wainaina’s decision but what I can confirm is that he (Wainaina) is out of the federation. What I cant explain is whether elections will be held to pick a new Nec member or the federation will decide to appoint a replacement.”
It also emerged on Wednesday that another Nec member Tom Alila could be on his way out of the federation.
Alila is contesting for the Ndhiwa Parliamentary seat on a Kanu ticket and will automatically relinquish is Nec seat in the federation if he triumphs.
According to the source, the decision by Alila, a close friend to Nyamweya, to contest for the Ndhiwa parliamentary seat, has already reflected in the federation has Robert Asembo has been picked to replace him (Alila) as the signatory in the federation.
Efforts to reach Nyamweya or federation Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Omondi Aduda to comment on the issue proved futile as our calls went unanswered.
