The former AFC Leopards defender bagged his first trophy in Simba jersey on Tuesday after they beat rivals Azam 3-2 to lift the Community Shield

One month after switching allegiance to Tanzanian league giants Simba SC, Kenya international defender Pascal Ochieng is getting ready for the Tanzania Vodacom league 2012-2013 season which kicks-off on Saturday.

The Vodacom league giants begin their title defense against African Lyon at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.

On Wednesday, Ochieng played 65 minutes of football, as Simba beat rivals Azam FC 3-2 to win the curtain raising Community Shield Cup.

Ugandan striker Emmanuel Okwi proved he is worth of gold for Simba scoring the winner after Azam had gone 2-0 up through striker John Bocco and Ivorian striker Kipre Tcheche.

Simba’s other goals came via Ghanaian Daniel Akuffor and Mwinyi Kazimoto.

The players' move to the neighboring giants had been shrouded in controversy as the Leopards hierarchy threatened to take legal action against Simba saying proper channels were not followed in the deal.

The 34 year old defender joined Leopards in the last week on the June transfer window, penning a six months contract but he jumped ship before he could feature in any competitive match for the Kenyan league leaders.

Before joining Leopards, he was at Rangers where he captained the side for 18 months before falling out with the club’s top brass over unpaid allowances.

At the same time former Tusker midfielder Jerry Santos side Coast Union begin their campaign against Mgambo FC.
