Botswana have pitched camp in Kenya since last Tuesday and were using the friendly as part of preparations for their do-or-die Nations Cup tie against MaliBotswana national team edged out Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Thika United 1-0 in an entertaining friendly match played at Kasarani on Tuesday.
Botswana, who have pitched camp in Nairobi ahead of their forthcoming 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Mali in Bamako, grabbed the lone goal in the 74th minute through Bro Mokgathi.
Thika United were using the match to gauge their preparedness ahead of the penultimate stage of the Kenya league. Thika coach James Irungu Kamau was an elated man afterwards.
“We gave it our best but the team that utilized their chance carried the day. It was a good match to measure my players’ and am thankful we gained a lot from it.”
Botswana coach Stanley Tshosane hailed the performance of the Thika side saying they had given his side a run for their money.
“Thika were a very determined side and played good football. They have helped us prepare well mentally for our must win match against Mali.”
The match was however, played behind closed door as par the request from the Botswana team.
