Birgen had been appointed last month by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) but had to be given a nod of approval by his seniors at Ulinzi
Ulinzi Stars’ Officer In Charge (OIC) Capt Joe Birgen has been allowed by the Kenya Defense Forces to work as the Harambee Stars team Manager.
Birgen had been appointed last month by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) but had to be given a nod of approval by his seniors.
“It gives me great pleasure to be given this mandate to manage the national team. I have had experience as a player for both Harambee Stars and the army team (Then Scarlet).”
“My experience is going to put me a step ahead and I want to replicate how I have managed to be Ulinzi’s OIC into the national team,” Capt. Birgen told the club’s official website.
“We have a lot of talented players but they never get the chance. We need to make Harambee Stars the best and getting this new talent is part of it. We are going to work together with the technical bench in harmony to see to it that Kenya football rises.”
Birgen will work under new Kenya coach Henri Michel, who was unveiled on Tuesday night. The Frenchman took over the mantle of coaching the team after Fkf deployed the then coach Francis Kimanzi.
Michel has a tough task ahead as he will also oversee the growth of the Under-17, 20 and 3 teams.
