Tottenham's 'ultimate objective' is top four, insists Villas-Boas

Tottenham's 'ultimate objective' is top four, insists Villas-Boas

Latest Europa League run can inspire Tottenham, claims Villas-Boas Previous

The Spurs boss has insisted that securing a Champions League spot is the priority at White Hart Lane, as his team prepare to take on Lyon in their Europa League last 32 second leg

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas insists that qualifying for the Champions League is his side's "ultimate objective" this season.

Spurs currently occupy fourth spot in the Premier League, four points ahead of faltering neighbours Arsenal.

Villas-Boas' side have been in impressive form since a disappointing defeat at Leeds in the FA Cup, putting together a run of four games without defeat in all competitions, and he is confident that the club can attain Champions League football after missing out last two season.

11/2 Tottenham are 11/2 with Coral to draw 1-1 with Lyon in their Europa League second leg

"Obviously the ultimate objective for the club will be to qualify for the Champions League," the Portuguese said in his pre-match press conference.

Spurs travel to the Stade de Gerland on Thursday night to face Lyon in the second leg of their last-32 Europa League tie, with Gareth Bale's double giving the north London side a 2-1 lead heading into the game.

Despite his focus being on domestic action, Villas-Boas also confirmed that his side will be going all out to bring some silverware to the club in Europe.

"If we are able to win the competition, it would be absolutely magnificent for us," he said.

"I don't think one will put in question the other. We are able to continue in both competitions.

"We have plenty of time to rest after Europa League ties so I think it's possible to continue approaching them in the same way."
