'It is Liverpool or nothing for me' - Carragher contemplates retirement
The Reds veteran has revealed that this season could be his last in professional football as no discussions have taken place about renewing his contract with the club
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has suggested that he could retire from the game at the end of the Premier League season. The 34-year-old joined the Merseyside outfit as a schoolboy and has made over 700 appearances for the club.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has played Carragher in a bit-part role this season, with the Northern Irishman preferring Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger in central defence.
Carragher has not held talks over a new deal with the club and has accepted that his contract is unlikely to be renewed in the summer.
"There is a chance that I will retire at the end of the season," he told the Daily Express.
"It is the last season of my contract and the club have not said anything to me yet.
"I am open-minded, but I would not play on if I was killing the team when I played. I would not be hanging on for money or anything.
"And I would not go anywhere else. It is Liverpool or nothing for me."
