Long: West Brom will stay grounded despite wonder start
The Baggies striker insists he is not getting carried away despite leading the club's scoring charts and with Steve Clarke's men sitting third in the Premier League
Shane Long insists no one at West Brom is getting carried away despite the club's sensational start to the season. The Baggies sit third in the Premier League table having picked up 26 points from their opening 13 matches, with Long leading the club's scoring charts with five goals.
But while the Republic of Ireland international admits everyone at the club is enjoying their astonishing run of form, he remains adamant there will be no premature talk of European qualification this term.
"It makes nice viewing but we're not getting carried away," he told BBC WM.
"It's good times at West Brom. The fans are very happy. But the further we go the more respect we'll get from other teams and the harder it will be.
"Maybe we can win five or six in a row then see what happens."
West Brom travel to the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday to face Swansea City, and Long believes it could prove a feast of football for the neutral.
"Swansea are a good passing team too and that should make it a good game to watch, we know we'll get nothing easy," he added.
"But, if we work as hard as we did when we won at Wigan and at Sunderland on Saturday then we'll have a chance of winning.
"We play good football, we're hard to play against and that's a recipe for good things."
