Aguero saved my job, admits Manchester City boss Mancini
The 47-year-old revisited the final day of last season ahead of City's match against QPR and confessed he wouldn't still be in charge if it wasn't for the Argentine's late strike
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini admits that Sergio Aguero effectively saved his job with his last-gasp goal against QPR last season. The Argentine scored moments after Edin Dzeko had levelled in injury time, to give the hosts a 3-2 lead and spark wild celebrations at the Eithad stadium as City clinched their first top-flight title in 44 years.
Reflecting on that moment ahead of City's match against QPR this weekend, the Italian boss says he doesn't know if he'd still be in the job had Aguero not found the back of the net that afternoon.
“Probably you would have been talking with another manager now,” he told The Telegraph.
“We didn’t win the championship in the last second, though. We won the last championship during all the season.

“Football is beautiful because anything can happen in one game. I hope this year we can get the same result but don’t concede one or two goals a game.”
Mancini also looked forward to the mouth-watering clash between his side and Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid, after the Premier League champions were drawn alongside the Liga winners, as well as German champions Borussia Dortmund and Dutch title-winners Ajax in Group D of the Champions League.“This is not Mourinho-Mancini, it is Real Madrid-Manchester City,” Mancini said.
“It is fantastic to play against three top teams, but we have four strong months until December when we finish the group and we need to have all the players ready every three days for this reason.”
