thumbnail Hello,

The result leaves Harambee Stars needing a 2-0 goal win in the return match to be able to make it to the group stages of African Cup of Nations qualifiers

Harambee Stars went down 1-0 to Lesotho in an African Cup of Nations qualifier played in Maseru on Sunday.

Tsepo Seturumane scored the only goal in 65th minute to give his side a process advantage going into return leg to be played on August 2 in Nakuru.

The result leaves Kenya needing a 2-0 goal win to be able to make it to the group stages of qualifiers. Team captain Victor Wanyama said he believes the team can overcome this hurdle in second leg following their performance in first leg.

"We gave it our best this afternoon but were unlucky not to score. I want to call on our fans to come out in large numbers and give us the support we need to win the return match.

"I strongly believe that we can beat them by two goals and make it to the group stage of the competition," Wanyama told Goal.

It was a feeling shared by Technical Director Jacob Mulee, who also admitted that the absence of head coach Adel Amrouche could have affected the team. Amrouche is facing a two match suspension and was not allowed to sit on the bench.

"We missed him (Amrouche) though he was still able to talk to the rest of the technical bench but his presence would have made a big difference."

Kenya controlled opening minutes with Peter Opiyo being denied early in the first half. In the 16th minute, Allan Wanga's half a chance was blocked earning Stars their first corner of the match as they kept up the pressure.

But in the 25th minute, Aboud Omar's effort was cleared off the line by Nkau Lerotholi and it was the best chance for the Stars.

Stars could not maintain their dominance in the second half as their opponents came back with a different strategy which allowed them to get their first and only goal of the match.

Stunned by the goal, Kenya made their first substitution pulling off Allan Wanga for Jacob Keli. Macdonald Mariga also came on for David Gateri while Jamal Mohammed replaced Francis Kahata but it was still not enough to get Stars atleast a point from this
