Lionel Messi to visit Senegal

The Barcelona star is expected in the West African country this week for humanitarian activities

Argentina captain Lionel Messi will be paying a visit to Senegal on Thursday at the invitation of Qatar’s Aspire Academy which has a filial in the country, the sports ministry confirmed on Tuesday.

The Barcelona star will participate in the distribution of mosquito nets to locals in an anti-malaria campaign initiated by the academy, officials said.

The four-time Ballon D’Or winner will also attend the official launching of the Soccer for Health world programme that will kick off in Dakar, Senegal’s capital.

Emblazoned with Messi’s image, the mosquito nets will be distributed to children and families from the rural localities of Mbour and Saly Portudal.
