The club officials and goalkeeper received huge suspensions from the Algerian National Football League for boycotting a medals ceremony

The Algerian National Football League emerged from a disciplinary meeting on Wednesday with several sanctions against officials of Division One side MC Alger, after the club refused to attend the medals ceremony of the Coupe D’Algerie at the 5 Juillet Stadium in Algiers last week following their 1-0 loss to archrivals USM Alger.

The players and staff walked away immediately after the match and did not receive their silver medals.

The Algerian National Football League described the action as contempt and promised to open investigations.

MC Alger president Omar Ghrib was handed a life ban from all sporting activities in the country, while the coach, Djamel Menad, was given a two-year suspension.

The club’s goalkeeper Faouzi Chaouchi, who also plays with the national team, was handed a two-year ban.

The League’s union also striped the club of all financial benefits attached to their reaching the final of their version of the English FA Cup.

The players last weekend released a statement that they only obeyed instructions from their chiefs to walk out of the stadium.
